I spent my share of caged-rat time trapped on long car rides but I'm the oldest of 4, and the only resident grandmaster in the ancient art of, "How's your sore leg?"

This was the first and last warning any more misbehavior would meet my charley horse. Sadly, each of my siblings are invertebrates, tragically born without spine.

Of greater worry was my mom, who would consistently pack egg salad sandwiches and asphyxiate us all.

"Lord no, Ma! We're dying here! Crack a window and blow the stink out!"

I turn 65 and retire today.

Thank you, thank you, it was nothing.

Congratulations!  I'll probably cut back on hours at 66, or most likely just work Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, but I work from home so I can hang until my brain turns to spaghetti.

Forgive the lame and self indulgent post, if you would. I was feeling archaic, lame and useless.

Blame the world we live in.  There's a few societies that still treasure their seniors for life experience and expertise, however here in 'Merica, many seniors are just mouth-drooling burdens on us all.  After all the MAGA people don't get any smarter as they get older.  So it's hard to blame Millennial and Gen Z kids whining that we're not all getting pushed out on ice floes to die.  They don't see the value of our wisdom or contributions to this steaming garbage heap.

However, I know my city is begging for seniors to donate their time and experience in various civic activities.  There's stuff out there if you still want to be useful.

Yup. High holy days of any description usually get ridicule. This one snuck up on me.
