If you rely on a Verizon email address you'll have noticed recent outages. Verizon, you may remember, recently swallowed ineptitude whole with its purchase of AOL and Yahoo to have them chop and shop your transactions, but never mind all that.

Your correspondents know where to reach you, sometimes.

Verizon has neglected to alert anyone their imap.aol.com INBOUND service is toast and subscribers should revert to pop.verizon.net, if they want any mail at all. Ever again. You're welcome.

I've used the same easy to remember address almost 20 yrs. Probably long enough.

Silly me; I should have checked my Contacts before I piped off (comments since deleted). I've had the same address for about as long, and if I'd had any idea at the time that I still would have, I've have picked a different user name. The old one was picked as a lark after not even a moment's hesitation.

But once you get going with an address...the desire to keep your mail chain a continuous unbroken stream makes you conservative about changing.

I've had the same address going back, jeeze, to 1994 and my email archive goes back to 1996. Shit, now I feel old.

I used to feel the same way about User Names/Nicknames on websites.  Such as this one.

Agreed.  Who the hell wants a screen name like mine?

Hello, fellow Verizon victims. Looks like we're thoroughly fucked.

My Gmail account is where emails go to die.
