Rolling your own homegrown in Oregon. A long standing tradition! Ah, but for the halcyon days of yore when we could just blame the Hawthorne skinheads on outside agitators from the bay area

Was that before or after I-5 detoured through Idaho?

Yes, when traveling North on that highway just look for the alternative right fork in the road. It will get you there on time. Just past the welcome sign for the state of Jefferson.

The only reason Oregon is progressive is because Portland is large enough to dominate the state's politics, and Portland leans solidly left; without Portland, Oregon is the reddest of red states, and white supremacy is only one of many manifestations. Look at Idaho and Montana, and you see what Oregon politics would look like without the civic influence.

You could say the same about almost any county north of San Fran and West of Indianapolis that has a population of less than 100k. But I'm not afraid that civilization will come crashing down because some skin heads have started a hoodie line and like to meet like minded individuals in their houses. It sounded like the few times they crossed the civil line they paid the price in jail time.

Exactly. That's sort of my point. Oregon isn't some progressive wonderland -- it's pretty much like the rest of America. Only with a big city which dominates the rest of the state. New York and Illinois follow a similar pattern.

The real divide in America is urban versus rural. It's good to remember, however, that civics, civility and civilization itself are all urban phenomenon (note the root word, which means city). Consider what we are giving up when we back rural over urban.

Absolutely.  If you look at Texas voting county by county, the only urban area that's not blue is Tarrant (Fort Worth, aka Cow Town).  The rest of the state is mostly red.  So people who have very little understanding of the world and the problems thereof shipped all of our Electoral votes to Trump, because they outnumber the people who live in cities not named Fort Worth.
